About Us
In 2017 Jan Willem Markvoort and Jasper Blaauw participated in the charity kitesurf event ‘Hoek tot Helder’, and with that Kite Team Van Oord was born. The Hoek tot Helder event is a kitesurf marathon which covers a total distance of 130 kilometers in one single day, which equals the complete Dutch coastline from Hoek van Holland to Den Helder. The event raised a total of 96,000 Euro for the charity organization “Hartstichting”. The event was organized by the Foundation Kite4Charity. Kite Team Van Oord participated as well in the third edition of Hoek tot Helder, which was held on 28 September 2019. This event raised a total of approximately 375,000 Euro for the Hartstichting.
In November 2017, Kite Team Van Oord organised a videoshoot on one the projects along the dutch coast line which was created by Van Oord, being the Sand Engine (Zandmotor). Footage of this shoot is widely used by the Communication Department of Van Oord in various internal and external communications.
In August 2019, Kite Team Van Oord travelled to Brasil to surf the coast line from Fortaleza to Sao Luis. A 800km, 10 days, downwind adventure, with 6 colleagues. The trip was organised in the light of Business Development and the collected footage will be used as well for internal and external communication.
At the moment in total 15 colleagues have shown interest to participate in future events organised by Kite Team Van Oord. This group widely represents our Company, both staff, operations and fleet, from both dredging, offshore and offshore wind.
